New Veterinary Station Opened in Rakitno

Last Saturday, the first private veterinary station in Herzegovina was officially opened in Rakitno. The opening ceremony was accompanied by a festive gathering and refreshments, fitting for a region widely known for the hospitality of its residents.

Before the ceremony began, we spoke with the visionary behind the project — its initiator, investor, and owner of the Rakitno-Vrpolje Veterinary Station, Dane Pavković Šišović, a member of the well-known Rakitno business family that owns one of the largest livestock farms in the area.

“Our intention was to offer people an alternative. Until now, all examinations, procedures, and veterinary services had to be carried out in Posušje, simply because there were no other options. Today, that has changed. This veterinary station is fully equipped to perform all services that such an institution is authorized to provide,” says Pavković.

When asked about the investment value, he added:

“The equipment alone — and we are proud to say that the station is fitted with the most modern devices currently available on the market, from laboratory equipment to specialized tools — is worth over BAM 100,000. The total project value is around BAM 150,000. It is important to emphasize that everything has been done according to the highest standards, allowing procedures to be carried out at a level that meets both Bosnian and Croatian standards.”

We also learned that local professionals will be employed at the newly opened station, and unofficial sources suggest that service prices will be affordable.

The opening ceremony was attended by Nada Rajković, Assistant Minister for Veterinary Affairs of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Sanjin Tanković from the Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Prof. Zijo Hadžiomerović from the Veterinary Institute in Sarajevo; Ante Vidović and Milan Andrijanić from the Veterinary Institute in Mostar; as well as cantonal and municipal representatives and numerous guests from Rakitno and surrounding areas.

Among them were many local farmers, who have now gained a valuable facility practically at their doorstep.
